Collection: Fisher(wo)man Earrings
English fishermen wore metal earrings for identification in case of an accident or death at sea. The metal pendants were inscribed with the wearer's name and address. A similar tradition also existed on the German coast, where earrings made of real gold were often worn – the material value of the earring was intended to be used for burial if the body washed up on a foreign shore.
