Burke’s physiological account understands the sublime as an immediate affective arousal, which is not a highly intellectual aesthetic response. This is the ‘thin sublime’.

Edmund Burke once understood the sublime as an immediate exhilaration which does not translate into intellectual response. This describes the thin sublime. The overwhelming sublime experience which however does not result in personal action.
The Medusozoa Ring is part of the collection “Thin Sublime” – an extension of the previous collection Sublime Devastation, inspired by the concept of Edmund Burke.
The piece is hand modelled in wax by me in my studio in Cologne, casted in Sterling Silver through a company in southern Germany and finished back in my studio.
